Grindhouse meets Kill Bill Vol 1
Can a B grade movie about B Grade movies actually B B B B good?
Plot Synopsis
Errr what plot? This movie's all about hot chicks, blood, gore and a silly plot that is only there to facilitate all that. But if you really must know.....
Cherry's a Go-Go dancer with lots of "Useless Talents" who aspires to greater things. Things for Cherry go a bit awry when she's involved in an accident and has her leg removed by some rather odd people. The rest is history......
Personal View
Trying to watch Planet Terror is, well, a grind. After all it is a bad (even though intentionally so) movie about B Grade horror flicks (ya know, the ones with no plots, sexy chicks in skimpy clothes and more swearing than actual dialogue). What probably seemed like neat little tributes to the director only seem to be annoyances to me. Things like the grainy video effect, scratched reels effect and the "missing reels" only seem to detract from the movie.
The rest of the action is Kill Bill Vol 1 style (this movie originally screened in a double feature with a movie by Tarantino) with plenty of blood, guts and gore thrown liberally around. Not to mention the body limbs which seem to outnumber actual bodies. Basically this goes for shock factor and I can't really say that impresses me (then again Kill Bill never really impressed me that much either although some of the fight sequences were excellent but the overuse of blood didn't seem to add anything for me other than contraversy).
Rose McGowen (as Cherry) is certainly nice eye candy. But you can get plenty of her from Charmed which in my view is a much better watch.
My Rating : 2/5 (Grindhouse doesn't get it's name for nothing)
Main Cast
Rose McGowen
Freddy Rodriquez
Josh Brolin
Marley Shelton
Bruce Willis
Release : 2007
Rating : MA15 (Should be Ri I reckon)
Genre : Horror
Price : $9.99 (Second hand from Video Store)
