Lethal Weapon 4

The whole city's insured against them
Mel Gibson and Danny Clover combine once again to bring you an action packed comedy.
Plot Synopsis
Riggs and Murtaugh return to the city, or what they've managed to leave of it in one peice. After being promoted "to stay out of trouble" as the Captain says. After inadvertantly being in the right place at the wrong time the two manage to find themselves in the middle of a Chinese money laundering ring that preys on those seeking illegal asylum in America.
Personal View
For those of you who don't remember the early days of DVD, Lethal Weapon 4 was one of the first movies Warner brought out on DVD (In those days you could count them on your fingers). Due to this Lethal Weapon 4 was my first exposure to the franchise and hence (dare I say it and risk any credibility I might have) my favourite of them all (followed closely by LW3).
Having watched all 4 movies I can see that this is a rather different approach to Lethal Weapon from the original which had a certain edgy dark humour to it. Lethal Weapon is more light hearted humourous and while there is some ed(is Murtaugh on the take?) it's rare and has a much lighter tone to it.than the original movie. Personally I prefer this type of humour but can appreciate that others may not necessarily agree. It might also depend on what order you viewed these movies in.
Apart from the humour this movie is non stop action from start to finish and should keep most viewers well entertained.
My Rating : 4/5 (A good fun movie with plenty of action)
Main Cast
Mel Gibson
Danny Glover
Joe Pesci
Renee Russo
Jet Li
Release : 1998
Rated : MA15
Genre : Action
Price : $19.95 whether you buy it seperate or with LW3 (at EzyDVD) You can also probably pick this up second hand somehwere much cheaper.

The original was so good because Riggs had an element of danger, by this one they had sanitized him down to an ineffectual parody of what was once an intense personality....effectively removing any freshness or innovation that had made the original such a fun ride.
The action scenes too seemed by the numbers and unexciting....nothing that set it apart from others of its ilk...unlike the earlier chapter that took the buddy cop formula in a more unpredictable direction.

I didn't like the edgier humour in the first which was gained by placing Riggs on the "Suicidal Cop" list. That might come from knowing people in real life who have been there (It's not a nice place)

Personal experience plays a huge part in the enjoyment of cinema, maybe the biggest....as for suicide, it is something that has sadly plagued my life too...a serious issue for anyone who comes in contact. Totally understand your perspective.
That's all a bit serious for a post on Lethal Weapon 4, now how about a joke?
A priest, a nun and a Steven Segal wealk into a bar. They walk up to the bar and the Nun says....
