Celebrity obsessed over Virtual Reality
Will there be a point in time when we can't tell the difference between something that is real and something created in the Virtual World?
Plot Synopsis
Viktor is struggling as a director after having some original success. When the star that was going to make audiences flock to his latest movie pulls out for "ahem" artistic differences things starting going downhill much faster than expected. His ex-wife pretty much fires him (she's the studio boss) and trying to finance and find an actor to replace the one he was originally relying on proves extremely difficult.
Which is where "Hank" comes in and conversely S1m)one or "Sim One". She's a virtual actor who promises to follow the director's instructions, costs nothing and won't leave the set based on the fact that her trailer isn't the larget on the block. But can he pull it off and will the audience beleive she's real?
Personal View
S1m0ne came under a lot of criticism from critics. However, this was one movie I was glad not to have read criticism before seeing it. While it's not particularly outstanding it does entertain and the casting was done very well. Al Pacino plays Viktor Toransky and some of the lines he says are so ironic (As one of the highest paid actors he's standing there compalining about how expensive they are). Some ohave criticised this for making the movie a bit shallow but personally I thought it added some great humourous moments.
Choosing Rachel Roberts to play Simone was also quite clever and often leaves the audience wondering "Is she actually real?"
Despite the humourous side the movie takes on some quite difficult issues in current society. In particular our obsession with celebrities and their day to day lives. This is illustrated well when Simone is "unavailable" which only makes the press and related people go even wilder for information and photos.
oMy Rating : 4/5 (An enjoyable comedy that should entertain most)
Main Cast
Al Pacino
Rachel Roberts
Release : 2002
Rating : PG
Genre : Comedy
Price : $14.92 (at EzyDVD) or $9.95 ex rental at Blockbusters

Budget Flicks
Perhaps a case of high expectations that couldnt be met?
I vaguely remember Gattaca but would have to watch it again.
Certainly there was a lot more that could have been done with S1m0ne I think.

You've hit the nail on the head, the film just didn't explore its ideas after the initial setup. Instead it went in circles and was to interested in a tidy end.
