Best Places to Buy Budget

March 10th 2008 06:29
Being a pensioner and legally blind has it's benifits. Gettinginto Hoyts for nothing is one of them (though without subtitles and the ability to pause often it is a bit dull). But let's look at home entertainment and the best place to buy your flicks....

EzyDVD Online
I generally find them a bit expensive but they often carry some nice exclusives such as Tin Sets. If you manage to get ahold of one of their sales too it can be a good idea to buy in bulk and not pay for shipping costs.

KMart, Target
Generally competitive but you need to hang around for the sales on various DVD's. I managed to get ahold of a lot of my Buffy DVD's for very good prices at KMart during a large 20th Century Fox sale they had on quite a while back.

Generally they have sales on all the time and a very good selection. Although when the sales are not on the DVD's you want they aren't all that competitive (being more around EzyDVD's prices).

Cash Converters
Although they have a limitrange and it's second hand you can pick up a movie in good condition at $5 a pop. If you don't mind it being used (probably watched once) then this is a really good alternative.

Blockbusters Ex-Rental
They cycle through a life span of their DVD's that goes something like...
Renatl...
Ex Rental New Releases ($19.95)
Getting a bit old ($9.95)
We really wanna get rid of this ($6.95)
Now we're really desperate to get rid of it ($4.95)

Ebay
Ebay usually has a good range of DVD's for sale. But the very important thing to keep in mind is postage costs otherwise you may end up paying more for a secon dhand movie than you can buy new on special at one of the above mentioned stores.

Now that you know all my secret places..
Shhhhhh!

Keep in mind though that a lot of the knack of buying budget movies is about timing and being patient for that movie you really want to come down in price or is put on special.

And a word to the wise....
Be wary of some movies that impromptu specials. Check around for the movies that have2 or 3 DVD's in the one box. You may find that the movie on special is in such a box and at the same price as the special but includes 1 or 2 other movies.
