A Few Good Men

In the line of duty...
Are you ready to back the law? Or instead take on the US Navyand its traditions in ensuring their men are fit for duty? Will you challenge the tier of Command?
Plot Synopsis
Santiego, a marine, has been murdered. Kaffee, a naval lawyer, has never actually been in a courtroom preferring to plea bargain for his clients. He's been assigned to defend the accused but even though who did it is obvious, things aren't quite as simple as they may seem. Koffee finds himself questioning the chain of command and almost all that the US Armed Forces stands for.
Personal View
This probably has to be my favourite courtroom drama movie of all time. Tom Cruise does a wonderful job of playing the self confident, laid back, don't try too hard Kaffeewho's having all his ideals about the armed forces turned upside down. Demi Moore also does a nice job of the Commander who smells a bit of a rat in the case and helps Kaffee. At some points in the myou can truly feel Kaffee's frustrations as he tries to unravel the mystery that is Santiego's murder.
There are a couple of "breaks" for Kaffee in the movie only .....
No wait, I won't tell you any more because otherwise I'll spoil it for you. Best thing to do is just go out and buy this movie yourself!
Jack Nicholson and Kevin Bacon also put in good performances in this movie.
My Rating : 4.75/5 (A must have in any movie buffs collection and especially good for the courtroom drama lovers).
Main Cast
Tom Cruise
Demi Moore
Jack Nicholson
Kevin Bacon
Released : 1992
Rating : M15
Genre : Drama
Price : $9.99 (KMart) $29.95 (10th Anniversary Special Edition)

I liked the script for this alot more than the end results. Kevin Pollack steals the movie for me and it is great to see Jack in full flight at the end. Seeing Tom Cruise in same frame as Nicholson really drives home how little talent he has.
Just for fun here are some of my favourite courtroom dramas:
12 Angry Men
Inherit the Wind
Anatomy of a Murder
Witness for the Prosecution
The Verdict
And Justice For All
Paths of Glory
Judgment at Nurmeberg

Courtroom dramas can be very dull (see any John Grisham film for evidence) but when they are done well I find myself enveloped in the process. Obviously I'm a big fan when they are done right.

I think that goes for pretty much any genre. Even the action genre can be dull if it ain't done properly.

I think that the talkie nature of courtroom dramas leaves them far more open to a pedestrian feel than some other genres..... plus the element of surprise is a massive component in the script that needs to be satisfied and hence makes it a riskier proposition.
Agreed that all genres can be boring if there is no flair, modern action fans seem to demand very little other than impressive FX to make the grade. Personally I need a lot more.
